Creative Ideas and How-To's

I'm so excited that you chose to decorate with one of my murals. Thank you. This one spans a large age range. It is suitable not only for a bedroom, but also for gamerooms.

Using paint or paper, you could cover the walls using a color or colors from the mural. I think I used about all of them so you have lots of choices. The murals can be adhered to wallpaper and many related patterns and border trims already exist. They also work great on a smooth, painted wall. Faux treatments are so popular now and would be a lot of fun to incorporate into the theme. You might make the walls look as though they have a rough texture by using sponging or rag rolling techniques. Or paint vertical stripes using a slightly lighter or darker version of the same color. You can refer to the many How-To books that are available at retail or the library.

If your walls are textured, consider adhering the mural pieces to matte board or thick paper and cutting it out. Ask your local wall treatment specialist for the best way to attach it to your particular type of wall. Your options may include nails, brackets, velcro or adhesive tabs.

• So many items would be great wall accessories. You could attach a coat rack shelf

to the wall from which you hang sports shoes and jackets. Use the top of the shelf for gear or trophies (Fig. 1).

• The baseball glove mural accessory would look good adhered to the wall just above a bedside table or dresser. You may need to lower it a little behind the furniture so it doesn't look like it's floating.

• Select from a vast array of team banners and sports memorabilia.

• The sports gear accessory mural would look great in a corner with some real balls or gear in front of it.

• I think it would be fun to paint the walls a solid color then come back with the same color only slightly lighter and paint markings of various playing fields.

• You could create a stadium atmosphere surrounded by fans where you are always the star attraction.

• When choosing fabrics or bedding, if you've kept the background wall color simple, consider plaids, stripes or patterns. Many teams have even licensed the use of their logos for bed linens.

• You could buy or make stamps and stencils to create your own border trim or details scattered about the room.

Well, I'm sure you'll come up with a lot of your own decorating ideas. If you get a chance, write or email us with your ideas and results. We would love to hear from you.

Sincerely,
Trish Selgrath
